Thieves Target Purse Containing Prescription Drugs

Thieves targeted the home of an elderly couple in Western Lawrence County Friday, making off with a purse containing prescription medications.

According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to a home on Waynesboro Highway just after 4:00 p.m. The residents, ages 82 and 81, reported they had left home around noon, returning around 4:00 p.m. As they approached their house they discovered it had been burglarized.

Deputies report a window was broken out and there were multiple pry marks about the door jamb. Inside, the residents discovered that the woman’s purse had been stolen from a bedroom closet.

The victims reported that their son had subsequently been notified by workers with the Lawrenceburg Power System that the purse had been found on U.S. Highway 43 South, near Jerry’s Restaurant.

The residents reported that the female resident’s medications had been stored inside the purse.

A neighbor told deputies that he had noticed a small blue sports car at the house earlier; possibly a Mitsubishi Eclipse. The car was gone, however, before the residents returned.
